*Moscato
d'Asti DOC: Clarte, 2004
(Elio Perrone) |
 |
|
Sweet, bubbly and only 5% alcohol: a traditional Italian
pick-me-up. In the hands of a master such as
Perrone, Moscato can be crisp, refreshing and well
balanced. Drink very cold as an aperitif, or with
puddings. A wonderfully light way to start or
finish a meal. |

Bigaro
Rosato, 2006
(Elio Perrone) |
 |
|
A sensational blend of 50% Moscato and 50% Bracchetto
this wine is only made in small quantities but we have
managed to get hold of a few cases. Bracchetto
gives the pink and adds a berry complexity to the
already beguiling moscato grape flavours. Low
alcohol frizzante which is a wonderful summer dessert
wine. |

*Moscato Rosa Lazio IGT:
Rosathea, 2000 (Castel
de Paolis) - half bottles |
|
|
We are devotees of dessert, and the whole spectrum of
sweet wines, but there are so many out there that are
just average. This is a delightfully subtle,
sweet, yet balanced red. On the nose there is
unmistakable Muscat, but melded with some wild rose
scents. In the mouth it is well balanced,
completely uncloying and with balancing acidity with a
slight smokiness. Quite lovely. The producer
says this goes with fruit pies or almond biscuits, but
we like it on its own. A real delight. |
